Tagmakers offers TWO engraving styles for Numbered Brass Tags:
1. PLAIN ETCHED, in which a diamond-tipped engraving tool etches the number (NO colour infill is applied).
2. DEEP-ENGRAVED COLOUR INFILL, in which we carve out the numerals and infill with a colour nitrocellulose paint.
EXTRA-THICK TAGS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE.
Scroll to the end of this listing to see an extra-thick option. These tags are 1.6mm thick, compared to the standard tag thickness of 1mm.
NUMBERED BRASS TAGS FAQ
What makes nitrocellulose-infilled brass tags different from basic brass tags?
Basic tags are feature clean, raw diamond-engraved routing without colour, where the engraved characters are deeply etched into the tag surface. The characters are vivid and permanent, but cannot be infilled with colours as the engraving is superficial. This form of marking is generally suitable for most ID tag applications and because it is much faster and easier to engrave this way, basic engraved tags are much cheaper than colour infilled tags. Our premium range uses a deep tungsten-carbide milling process where a significantly deeper channel is carved into the tag surface. The carved numbers are then meticulously backfilled with a professional-grade nitrocellulose enamel. This creates a smooth, flush surface with high-contrast visibility that makes the numbers incredibly easy to read from a distance or in low-light environments.
What colour choices are available for the nitrocellulose infill?
Our standard premium range features high-contrast Black, Red, and Dark Blue nitrocellulose infills. These deep enamel choices are selected specifically to offer maximum legibility against the polished gold finish of the solid industrial brass disc.
Will the coloured nitrocellulose infill chip, peel, or fade over time?
Unlikely. Because the enamel is deeply poured directly into the carved channel of the brass rather than painted onto the surface, it resists being peeled or scratched off. While the enamel is resistant to most detergents and mild cleaning agents, strong solvents and paint removers, including thinners, can dissolve and liquefy the enamel. The permanency of the colour infill is influenced by the harshness of the conditions under which the tag is subjected.
Are infilled brass tags suitable for marine or chemical environments?
In general - yes. The combination of solid industrial brass and nitro-cellulose enamel provides good resistance to atmospheric corrosion, saltwater immersion, and many volatile chemical vapors. They are used across marine vessels, offshore rigs, commercial plumbing networks, and demanding factory settings.
Can I order custom data sequences or non-sequential numbering?
Absolutely. While sequential numbering (e.g., 001 to 100) is standard, we can engrave any custom dataset, skip-sequence numbers, alphanumeric codes, or specific valve identifiers. You can type your requirements directly into our ordering dashboard or securely upload your asset registers via Excel, CSV, PDF, or Word formats.
What is the typical production lead time for premium filled tags vs basic engraved tags?
Due to the precise mechanical deep-milling process and the critical curing time required for the premium nitrocellulose infilling, production typically takes 5 working days and sometimes longer. Basic engraved tags take much less time to engrave, and because no infilling is required, the time it would take to infill and cure such tags is irrelevant.
